Joint the crowd! (Intro)
Hi Everyone!
Special thanks to Kris,
what an great idea, things are really happening
on the list now that
everyone is doing an intro, I guess I should put in
my share too. My name is Thomas, I been on this list
for just a
little over a year now and I love this list (Special thanks
again to
everyone who put this together and all the hard working GYMN
reporter).
I'm 23 y.o., a part-time student and a full-time athlete in the
sport of
Olympic Flatwater Kayaing or Sprint Kayaking. I love the sport of
Gymnastic very
much, but just only as a fan (did it for one summer when I
was a kid). My favorite gymnasts are Yuri Chechi,
Amanda Borden, Dina
Kochetkova, Elena Piskun, Oksana Fabrichnova, Marleen
Lavoire (Go
Canada!) and many others.
I guess that's all, oh yes.. two thumbs up for
all those who post
knowlegeble and positive message.
Your fellow GYMNer,
Thomas
PS
- For those who live in the U.S. and like to try kayaking or canoeing
the # for U.S. Canoe
and Kayak Team is (317) 237-5690, they can
direct you to a club
near you. I always thought a
gymnast would
make a good paddler (strenght to weight ration), give it a try you
might discover a new
talent, which what Mike Barrowman (92' Olympic gold
medalist in swimming
is doing). Any other questions,
please e-mail
me privately.

This means
Stanford, Berkeley & THE Ohio STate University go on to Fri night.
(Not
my idea, idea of regents for the "THE OHIO...", they are VERY strict
about
that! {grin} )
Im having a blast. I ended up with all the Stanford
parents.
Hegi's on one side of me, Edelmans in front of me, Finklesteins
next row down.
You think KIDS get rowdy ? HAH !
To kick things off, the
infamous Stanford band showed up.
They dont use uniforms. They wore the loudest patterns they
could find.
One sousaphone has the radiation pattern painted in its bell,
another the
SPAM logo, and the trumpet section keeps running around.
(Few
years ago they got on the field too early and caused Berkeley to win the
"Big
Game") These guys are prolly
the outrageous school band youll ever see.
Anyone wanting to find me,
Im in the back row of section 4, row E seat 9.
Look for the green baseball
cap with the P on it.
Only had one taker for a GYMN get together,
bummer.
Penn lost a guy on HB.
He fell & clutched his gut.
Looked like a ruptured
diphragm to me. They had the medics out there awhile but
he did walk off the
floor with help.
Berkeley was horrid at first
but got MUCH better.
I bagged a press pack so Ill post the other
numbers in later posts.

Soviet dominance
In looking at the results from the Event Worlds, it
is interesting to see
>the number of nations that achieved medal
positions. The total dominance
>of the former U.S.S.R. nations is
beginning to show a decline as other
>nations,*SNIP*
Following up on
Jasons post of the 24th.
While this is true to some extent, look at
the countries that are winning
the medals instead of the soviets.
Who
is coaching them?
Cuba-
Trained by Russian coaches.
France- Trained by Chinese coaches ( and Russian?)
Another country that
has shot up the ranks in the last few years include,
Australia - Russian
and Chinese coaches- (lots of
them)
Nearly every team at Sabae had a Foreign coach on their team. Romanian,
Chinese or Russian.
This
is one reason why the medals are
being shared around.
