Dominique won a silver on beam in 93 and should have won the gold.
I think she also may have medaled on the bars and was in the running for
the 93 and 94 all arounds until the last event.

Despite her numerous, horrible, obvious form breaks during that routine
for the majority of which the prescribed code decudtions for form breaks
were not taken?????

Hi,
Sherwin send us some interesting comments about WC in Puerto Rico. About
high bar comments:
Fedorchenko (kazahstan) recived 9.45 because his start value is only 9.8.
he missed combination Kolman (Kovacs salto with 1/1 turn), quast, quast
what would give him 0.2 bonus more. He also made a mistake with touching
the bar while tried to perform eagle.
Carballo did a new element which is not in the Code of points so it can be also
named by him (like Pegan). His element can be described as: from free hip
circle rearways fwd., straddle backward over the bar with 1/2 turn to one
arm hang. Element similar but without a turn can be found in Code under
VI. structural group, number 5 (E difficulty).

Otherwise Carballo (Spain) did 3 E and 4 D elements and he deserved title.

In finals the judging was correct by the Code, but there should be a huge
changes of present Code. Fedorchenko performed Kovacs salto which is E part
and Kolman salto (Kovach with 1/1 turn) is also E part. There is no more
reason why not to open up a difficulty to F or G parts.

With best regards to all you people out there who brought to us almost
on line the results from Puerto Rico.

Ivan

for................ PAID PROGRAMMING....
Does anyone have an email address so I can express my opinion and try to

Subject: Training for young gymnasts

This is my first letter. Since my daughter is doing gymnastics I am trying
to learn more about this sport and that's why I subscribed to this list. I
want to be able to appreciate her performances. I'm even part of the
administrative commitee of the club... so maybe in a few years I'll be able
to understand all the technical issues of this list.

My question is regarding training hours. My daughter is 6 and is doing
gymnastics for 2 years now. She is training 10 hours a week during winter
and 12 during summer. I will like to know from other parents and coaches
what is the trend for that age. How many hours of training in other clubs?

Thank you,

Subject: Pae Gil Sue's Olympic Eligibility

Hello,
I was sure that others had read this in the New York Times as well, but since
it doesn't seem that way, I will tell you about the article I read about Pae
Gil Sue.  No, he is not eligible for the Olympics.  The North Korean
federation hasn't sent gymnasts to a World Championships since 1993 (I
think).  Since they didn't compete in Sabae, Sue will not be able to compete
in Atlanta.  The reasons given for their absense from Worlds was that they
didn't have the money and that their country was in morning for their leader
who died.  It also talked about the controversy with Kim Guang Suk and how
North Korea was banned from competition for a year.  I was wondering, does
anyone know how old Kim Guang Suk really was at the Olympics?
Hope this helps,
Liz

Subject: Need gym to work out

Hi everyone,

I am planning on attending the USAG congress this summer in Boston.  I will
be bringing my family along with me.  I have a daughter who is a novice level
8.  She will need a gym to work out in while we are there.  Can anyone tell
me what gym's are around and who would let her work out while in Boston?  We
will be there Tuesday thru Sunday.

Thanks,

Sandi

Subject: Re: Introduction and Oprah

Hi.  I've written a few short posts but never really introduced myself.  I'm
17 years old and have been doing gymnastics for about eight years.  (I quit
when I was eleven and picked it up again at 14)  I quit at age 11 when I
realized that I wasn't going to be a great star in the sport :)  However, I
started back up again to compete for my high school.  It took me a while to
get everything back, but the experience has been wonderful.  I've really been
able to enjoy the sport a lot more than when I was seriously into it at such
a young age.
Now, this is just my opinion, and you can flame at will.
I, of course, believe that gymnastics is a wonderful sport with far more
positives than negatives.  I disagree with the way Joan Ryan and Oprah
presented the show to act like all gymnastics at all levels was abusive.
However, no one can deny that SOME abuse does go on in our sport.  Even if
we are only talking about four or five girls in the country that are pushed
too hard, or the pressure is so that they develop an eating disorder,  these
are four or five girls too many!  I don't believe the people on the show were
lying.  The public has a right to be aware of these happenings, and it's
especially concerning because elite gymnastics is dealing with young girls.
On another note, Kristie Phillips mentioned something about a kind of support
group that USA gymnastics has set up....and she mentioned that she wished it
was around when she was doing gymnastics.  What is this?  Can someone fill me
in?

Thanks,
Jenny

During the first press conference of some winners, Jim Barry explained the
situation, as deeply as he could, about the eligibility of Gil Su Pae. The
FIG, he told, can't admit any more gymnast to the Olympics by her own
initiative. But the north corean federation can submit a request to the IOC.
Than, the IOC can ask the FIG to accept the request, using one of the four
wild cards available for the men's sector (there are four others w.c. for
women's and five for RGS).

I was under the impression that giants that didn't pass through
h-stand to
generate a tap were the specifically mentioned so as NOT to receive a
deduction.  (Am I phrasing this correctly?)  That is, it is OK to do so
because the skill is used to generate power vs, .....

The giant that you have mentioned is called an accelerated giant or
"working' giant and was used by Gutsu prior to her double layout flyaway.
It was added to the code so that there would be no deduction taken for not
passing through vertical.  It is in the current code under the same number
as the normal one.
