Women's Euros AA: 1st Rotation
After one rotation:
1. Boguinskaya 9.825 (bars)
2. Podkopayeva
9.806 (vault)
3. Khorkhina 9.750 (vault)
4. Milosovici 9.637 (beam)
5. Amanar
9.612 (beam)
Random Observations...
- Gogean
(defending champion) hasn't qualified for final 24.
- Kochetkova
has scored a 9.525 with a wobbly beam; back in about tenth.
- Sheremeteva fell mounting bars and only scored 9.187
-
Reeder scored 9.262 on bars (first time I've ever seen her stay on!);
her big moment will come in tomorrow's FX finals.
- Furnon has scored 9.537 with a so-so bars
(great FX to come)
- Tsavdaridou of Greece is in
6th...no idea of apparatus, not televised.
- Khorkhina
looked stiff vaulting.
Would love to supply further bulletins, but
live tv's cut to
something
else.

Re: Spartanburg, S.C.
Ok, Texx, here you go.
You just called me and Dean bigots. Why? Because
we
raised the issue of over whether USA gymnastics
should get involved in these
political fights? You
jumped the gun, and immediately wrote a long winded
post
condemning everybody who did not agree with USA gymnastics decision to
THREATEN
to pull the men's training out of Spartanburg, S.C.
You called them
bigots. I have nothing aganist gay people. What I do
have a
problem with is people who get on public
forums and INSULT OTHER MEMBERS
PERSONALLY. I am not going to be called
names and take it sitting down.
THIS ISSUE IS NOT ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT
HOMOSEXUALITY IS GOOD AND WHOLESOME,
IT IS ABOUT WHETHER OLYMPIC RELATED
ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD INSTIGATE POLITICAL
BATTLES OVER THE
POLITICS OF AN AREA.
If you want to discuss the merits of
homosexuality, go to a gay and lesbain
chat room, or to alt.sexuality.gay
or some other newsgroup. I am discussing
a legitmate issue that was brought up by our local newspaper
involving USA
GYMNASTICS. My local TV station asked the same question.

Spartanburg Annoyance
I thought this was a list to discuss gymnastics,
not politics. I may very
well strangle myself if people don't take this to private
email or drop it
altogether. I actually thought I might get some
gymnastics info (you know
scores, info about
gymnasts etc.)....perhaps I accidentally subscribed
to
the wrong list.

MAG: (Now Spartnburg free!)
Anyone else get a chance to watch the Men's Illinois High School
Champs
last night on the Sports Channel?
I
had a couple question:
1)
What exactly are the rule difference for FX performed on a
40 x
40 mat verses the 'strip' they used at that meet?
2) I
thought that they might get two vaults, but only one?
3)
The gymnast who earned the 10.0 on PH earned it relative
to the field. He had great extension on all his moves.
4) A
gymnast did a sequence on FX:
RUNNING FRONT-RO-FF-FF- full twist directly into
a split (UGH!!!!)
What
is the value of that last move? I've never seen it before.
Thanks!!

Womens Euro AA Results
No doubt Sherwin and
others who were actually there will be checking in
with
a five star report soon, but in the meantime...
1. Podkopayeva
39.205
2. Boguinskaya 39.106
3. Milosovici 39.067
4. Amanar
38.942
5. Kochetkova 38.730
6. Khorkina 38.549
Random Observations...
- No
real quibbles with the result, except that maybe the gaps between 1
and 2, and 2 and 3, should have been a bit wider. Pod a
class apart
frankly: sharp, fit, concentrating
100%, hitting everything. I was
sceptical
about Bogey's comeback, but count me a believer now. She was
the only athlete there as sharp as Pod, though with less
content.
- Add me to those who, after Puerto Rico, want Milo to bin her
FX
medley. It's vile. Otherwise her form was okay,
but she's no threat to
Pod. Amanar identikit
Romanian routines apart from above-average FX.
- Dina suffered from a poor
opening on beam. Got better later: good FX
and
bars, but couldn't catch up. I stand by my earlier opinion that
Khorkina's stiff: that back of hers presumably. She fell on
beam, her
last piece, but was off form from the
start.
- My mistake earlier, Reeder's not in FX finals tomorrow (put foot
out
in teams). Shame, both for
her and the home crowd.
- Yardsticks for Atlanta? Put your money on
the Chinese for team and Pod
for AA.

Skill you described-MAG
In your post regarding the Men's Illinois High
School Champs you
described
a gymnast doing this skill:
RUNNING FRONT-RO-FF-FF- full twist directly into
a split (UGH!!!!)
Are you sure this is
correct? Now I may not have
technical expertise
in MAG but this skill seems
very dangerous not to mention extremely
painful--couldnt help wincing when I read it. I would be interested
to hear what the value of this skill is. My guess it would be an E
for guts alone.
Then again gymnastics is nothing without the risk
element.

Enough queer stuff and back to the Gymnastics
You know the olympics are around the corner...
it's going to be an exciting
time!!! You know how I feel about our physically
outmatched men's team -
what do you think our
chances are of a medal (team? events?).
Where is Paul O'neil when you need him... he really could have been an
asset
as our strength coach.
Oh well...
our men's team spends to much time wondering how the country
should be picking up the tab for them because they didn't
attend college or
make any career plans. It would be soooo
nice for an outspoken member of the
team would
accomplish something and become a role model???
"BC's" a
great role model... ask him about the little "kicked off the team
and out of the university" issue some time?? Or hey, just ask his coach...
hmmm dismissed from the university as welll???? Must be just a little to
much of that "one on one" training...
Gotta love this sport!!

Pink bunny rabbits and yellow duckies
You
know, I was really amazed with what the pink rabbits and the yellow
duckies could do when I saw them
in the store the other day. They could
do flips
and spin in circles and OH were they ever cute.
Now, what does this
have to do with gymnastics? Absolutely nothing. But
since
noone seems to care anymore, I thought I'd just go
ahead and post
it. They were the darndest little things...
Do we get the point
now??????

shown some women European gymnastics
yesterday,
has anybody managed to tape it at all? If so then
please
please please I'll be very

show any junior portions (since BBC did
show quite
good coverage of the seniors). Thank you very much.
I can get ARD but
