Doni Thompson
I remember them saying on the
NBC Broadcast of 1995 Nationals that she
had been
pouting and the coaches had been ignoring her during the
workouts. I guess I figured that was her response
to injury and fatigue
after the summer of intense
training and thought she would be much
happier
when she found the work was worth it (making the world team). If
it is
true that she really has decided to leave for good, it will be a
great loss to the sport-she had a unique style and fun
personality that
were fun to watch. Does anyone know how the Forsters and the Aeriels
team have reacted?
Was it an expected or sudden departure?

I was rather surprised about this
fact, too. I hope that there will be an IG
article
about this so she can tell us why? It would be interesting.

This *really* surprised me (as I'm sure it surprised a lot of
people). Could
it be that her back injury was more serious than it
appeared? I guess
appearances can be deceiving,
but, to me, she seemed to be the happiest
member
of the U.S. World Team! All I can
say is that it must be something
pretty serious,
considering that she is supposedly giving it up a mere 8
months
from the Olympic Games, immediately after establishing herself as a
strong member of the U.S. team in Sabae.
I
heard on T.V. several times that Doni always prayed
every night to "help
make her Olympic dreams
come true". In addition, it is
especially puzzling
since she just won her first
national title a few months ago in New Orleans -
she
really seemed to be coming into her own!
Of course, there is probably
much more that went into this decision than any
of
us is aware of. I wish her all the
best -- I will definitely miss her
elegant line
and clean presentation, which helped to make her a tremendous
asset to the United States team!

I
just got confirmation of my Olympic tickets today! I have one
ticket
for July 24ths AA (I can't remember if it's men's or women's)
confirmed, but the one for the 25 couldn't be confirmed in
the price I
wanted, but I've been reserved a more
expensive one. My friend will be
going
to rowing.
I
was wondering if there are any gymners living in that
area who
would be willing to but up a couple of
people for about a week at the games.
Or even camp out in your
backyard? I need to get moving with
accomodations.
I didn't want to count my chickens
before they hatched, but I guess they've
hatched
now. I'd be happy to pay for your
troubles, maybe even cook for
you...
Anyway, I'm just excited to get my confirmation. And I though the
Subway Meet was
fun...
