I also remember reading this, but I'm not sure where.

NCAA Division III result from Jan. 6

Tri-Meet (UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, Hamline University)

Team Results
1)UW-Oshkosh 134.90
2)UW-La Crosse 130.3
3)Hamline 129.65

All-Around
1)Kari Graef (Oshkosh) 34.1
2)Kari Livingston (La Crosse) 33.8
3)Nikki Smith (Oshkosh) 33.65

Oshkosh was ranked third in the NCAA division III rankings before the
meet. La Crosse is the NCGA defending national champion, and Hamline
was at nationals last year as a team, and is a perennial Div. III power.

Note:
Oshkosh had several falls on bars, which head coach Paul Scardina cost
them a chance at scoring between 137-138. Only Juli Baumblatt stayed
on, and she scored 8.35 to win the event.

Oshkosh scored a meet-high event total of 36.05 on the balance beam,
sweeping the top three places, with Graef the top scorer at 9.35. Graef
also earned WWIAC athlete of the week for her performance (the conference
that Oshkosh and La Crosse compete in)

La Crosse's Kari Livingston threw a Ginger on bars, hit it and the
rest of the routine and scored only an 8.2. Good for second place on
the event but....

Next up for Oshkosh is a home meet Saturday against UW-Stout, their
last of the season. La Crosse competes against Eau Claire Friday, and
against Hamline again on Monday.

Sorry this went to the whole list, but I have no idea on who is keeping
up the collegiate update.

Subject: S.F. people going to Reno?

Sorry to clutter the list for those of you not in the San Francisco Bay
Area, but I am looking for other people who are planning to go to Reno
this weekend for the "Battle of the Sexes."

I am planning to photograph the meet, but since my vehicle is currently
in the shop, I will end up renting a car if I can't find one to share.
If anyone is planning to drive (the weather looks like it will be fine),
or would like to share a rental with me, please let me know. Please call
the number below if possible, as my email can sometimes get delayed.

FYI, the meet starts at 2:00 p.m., so I am looking to drive up Sunday
morning and come back Sunday evening.

If no one else from the list is going, I will try to report on the meet
as well, but it's not as easy to get an overall picture (so to speak) of
the meet from behind a camera lens.

Subject: Strug in _USA Today_

Wednesday's (10 Jan. '96) _USA Today_ had a small article, written by Debbie
Becker, about Kerri Strug's recent return to Karolyi's, in it's "Olympic
Notes" section.

Her move was credited to a desire to train in a "higher intensity atmosphere"
then that offered with Tom & Lori Forester at Colorado Aerials (their
sentiment not mine).

Karolyi was also quoted as saying that Kerri is in "good spirits" and added "
.... If she's not on the Olympic team, it would be a disaster for the U.S."

Any commentary on Kerri's move?

*shrug* I don't know what to think. She's hopped gymns so many times
over the last few years I'm not sure what she feels. We all spent
this summer praising the move to Coloroado and how good she looked.
And now she has moved again.

=09Well, all I can say is that I hope Kerri will get a fair shake at=20
Karolyi's.  I mean, Bela has been so concentrated lately on Kim's=20
comeback, as well as the great success of Dominique Moceanu, that I hope=20
that Kerri won't get lost in the shuffle.  I think she has the ability to=
=20
be the number one gymnast for the US in Atlanta, as she continues to=20
improve and is always upgrading her routines.  I know Kerri doesn't want=20
to just go to the Olympics this year.  Making AA finals, and EF would be=20
what she's shooting for, I would say, and I honestly think she deserved=20
to be there in 1992 (instead of Okino, not Zmeskal).  I hope Bela will=20
want this for her to, and that he will help her get there.  This will=20
include letting her compete her full content in Atlanta, holding nothing=20
back.  Of course, if Bela is the head coach, he will have a lot to say in=
=20
terms of who competes on what event, and probably, he will push for=20
"his" gymnasts to go on all 4, so hopefully this will help Kerri get into=
=20
AA (although I still believe that she deserves to be there, and that she=20
doesn't need Bela's "help" in this regard; I'm just saying having a coach=
=20
like that on your side wouldn't hurt).
=09Basically, I think Bela could make all the difference for Kerri=20
this year.  As long as they both work towards the common goal of having=20
her peak in Atlanta - with the intention of making AA finals - then I see=
=20
no reason why she won't be able to achieve this.  Perhaps she'll win=20
USA's?  She's the only "active" 1992 Olympic Team member not to have won it=
.
=09Just my 2=A2.
