Eaton
Stormy Eaton was the head coach of Desert Devils. He coached
national
team members Sandy Woolsey, Liz Crandall, and Juliet Bangerter.
Crandall
and Bangerter went to the 92 olympic trials, and Woolsey retired
the year before.
Woolsey was an impressive 8th at the 89 worlds. I think
a
lot that had to do with her retirement was the fact that she was passed
over on the 91 worlds team in favor of Michelle Campi. Woolsey
beat Campi
at the world
trials.

Subject: Onodi
There has been a lot of talk about Henrietta
Onodi lately, so i
figured
this would be of interest. I just received
my April edition of IG and it
says:
"1992 world and Olympic vaultion champion
Henrietta Onodi
has resumed training at South Texas Gymnastics
Academy and
hopes to represent her native Hungary at the
Olympics this
summer."
Henrietta has so many
fans all over the world. If she does decide to come
back
and qualifies for the Olympics, she won't be without her loyal fans!!!!!

Sandy Woolsey
Although Sandy
Woolsey did retire from elite competition, she is
still
very much an active competitive gymnast with the university of
Utah. She competed all events for Utah at
NCAA's last year, and her bars
are just as good
with at least the same difficulty as when she won the
bars
at USAs in 1990.
As
for when/why she retired from elite, it wasn't a whole year
before the 1992 Olympics. She competed at the Buckeye meet early
1992
and from what I recall she retired due to an
injury mid 1992 (a back
injury? I guess it is okay now?)
Also, when mentioning Stormy Eaton's national team members, don't
forget Kim Arnold, who was on the US national team in 1993
(3rd on vault
- was she on the national team in
1992?) who is now competing for
Georgia. Utah alumni Aimee Trepanier
was also coached by Eaton during
her elite days,
but I don't think she was ever on the national team.

full out technique
At gymn camp in 1975, we
were told that a full-out was technically
impossible because there would be no way to begin the twist
in the
second salto. Obviously not true. But why? How do gymnasts generate
the twist on the second salto? Any special training
techniques? I
have some ideas, based on
memories of fulls and science films of cats
twisting in the air to land on their feet, but I would
appreciate a
mechanical (and more accurate!)
explanation. Thanks.

Really want to learn gymnasticsn
Hi
all,
I am an adult in my twenties who is very interested in
learning
the basics of gymnastics. I would like to get to the point where
I
can do simple stunts like walkovers.
My
question is: It seems to be very hard to find adult gymnastics
instruction.
Beginning instruction is always for toddlers and kids.
Where do I
start? Is it even possible? I dance a little, so I am
flexible (hopefully not a hopeless case). I am looking for instruction
in the San Francisco Bay Area, preferably in Berkeley. I am truly
desperate
and willing to learn, so I would appreciate any pointers I
get (YMCA's?
Sports Centers?) Oh, I am a
poor graduate student, so
I don't have that much money to spend. I am doing this for fun, so
a class that doesn't meet so often would be better. But, as I said
before,
I am rather desperate and will take all suggestions.
someone please help,
Sharon

Collectors
editions of _SI_ are available through a company called "The
Personal

1955-1996 can be ordered for $44.95

It's pricey, but I thought I'd pass it along is case

Woolsey vs. Campi/Politics
I know this is
old news, and I _really_ hope this doesn't start a flame war,
but we have to remember that at least 6 if not 7 of Campi's scores counted
towards
the team silver in '91. Granted, I
think the team selection process
was not very fair
considering the American system, but then look at the
Olympic team.
Ok...end
of discussion. BTW--what are the
OFFICIAL Atlanta team selection
rules for men and
women? I know the US can send only
I rhythmic. And with
a world medalist currently injured, how will that change the
selection
picture? (Remember Okino
in '92.)

Re: Woolsey vs. Campi/Politics
Seven of Campi's eight scores counted (all except optional vault).
However,
think about what number of Sandy's most likely would have
counted...probably six of eight, if not seven or eight of
eight,
given her talent on all four apparatus.
Also, Woolsey was the high
scorer in optionals at nationals, and second overall. She was
8th
all-around at the 1989 Worlds, and seventh on
bars. Just how many times
did Woolsey have to
prove herself?
Nothing against Michelle Campi,
but Woolsey earned the right to
compete, no matter
WHAt Campi did after the
fact...
