USA Nationals
Could someone tell me the dates for the USAs? What days
are the women competing
and what days are the men?
I would LOVE to go and I might actually be able to
since
they will be in TN and I live in Kentucky. Anyone else going?
Have any
idea how much I should save for the hotel
rooms and tickets?
THANKS!!

Jupiter
I have played and heard Jupiter. I am in strings and at the Madison
All-City
festival, that was one of the songs that
I played and the orchestra
accompanying us play
it. I think that would be very good
floor music.

PH routine evaluation
>To all the Men's Judges out there, I'm just

>First, a

>downhill circles, two pommel loops to the center, then a
Bailey, then a back
>Moore, a downhill circle, and a
flair to a handstand on the end.
Then, drop
>down to the center, do an
alternate back scissor, back scissor, alternate
>front
scissor, front scissor, pick up to double leg circles, a downhill
>pommel loop to backward longitudinal travel, alternating
hands across the
>pommels, and then a flair to
a handstand dismount.
If I read this correctly you have the
following:
Diff-
3 C's 5 B's -
2.2
Req-
1.2
Exe-
5.4
bonus-no D's or E's
0.0
Total start value 8.8
However,
there is one point where I might be interpreting your description
incorrectly, if the back longitudinal travel is over the
whole horse instead
of 2/3 as the text seems to
suggest then that would increase the value to a D
and
get you full difficulty and start the routine at a 9.1.
Hope that
helped,
Dean

The new junior
routines for the mens' program for this quadrennium will come
out this
weekend at mens' JO nationals in Tulsa, OK. USAG
should have then
available from the merchandise dept soon after. Just call USAG member
services for more info (1-800-345-4719).

I don't know of any at the college level, but
in my club we have a female
head coach for our mens team, and she does a wonderful job. She has kids
at
the regional level for several years now, and
last year three of her class
III's made the allstar
team from state to regionals. SHe has two class
I's
this year and they look pretty good. Her up
and coming kids are doing well
also. In 1995 she
was given the honor of being selected the Coach of the Year
for the NCBGA. Quite an honor.

Last one...
Sorry for so many posts, but I've missed a week and am
trying to get it all
together!
1. It was said, a few years ago, that Dom
Dawes was going to Stanford on full
scholarship
for gymnastics. Now she's accepted
money but still plans on going
to Stanford. Can anyone verify what's going on with
her, and why?
2. How's
Michelle Campi doing? I so much wish that her career hadn't
been cut
short. She would've been the best dancer the US
has seen in a long long time.
3. My seven for Olympic team: Miller, Dawes, Moceanu
(consistent but not
great...just on the team to
help the team...), Strug, Phelps, and then it's
a
toss-up.
The 2 remaining spots could go to any of the following: Borden,
Powell, Chow, Thompson, and
boy would I love to see Kulikowski on the team!
Why
isn't Theresa ever shown on TV?
I've never seen her but the descriptions
are
enough (perfect form in a double front!!!).
Ugh, I think that's it for
now. Sorry for the ramble.

last few weeks
Several things...
Someone asked about
stretches. Do a web search for the
stretching page.
There is also a contortionists
page as well.
I backed off on my NCAA mens
scores since Mayland & Rachele
were posting.
I had to drive like a maniac to get there on time, bad
wreck on the highway.
This is the only NCAA National Ive
ever been to, do most NCAA NAtionals
have the school band come out to play ? Or was this a STanford
touch ?
I got the hard copy of all the scores
from the press office,
which I shared each night
with people whod missed scores.
(They express
their thanks)
Sat night, after it was all over there was this lady
sharing copies of
photographs she had taken
earlier with some of the athletes,
and she
mentioned Maylands name.
I asked her if Mayland was really there, since I got the impression from
the
lists posts that this was indeed the
case.
Well she introduced me to Mayland, and
pointed out Rachele.
Turns out she was Racheles Mom !
Well I treked over to meet Rachele, and
this man said "Hi Texx!".
I
couldnt place him, he was a dead ringer for an
engineer I used to work with
who was an
ex-gymnast. It was George
Atkins. I asked him how he
recognized
me, it turned out it was my hat. (Id forgotten that Id posted a desc of me)
I didnt regognize George because when I did a contract for Georges
company
I briefly met a gymn fan who after I
joined the list I figured this guy was
George. Well now I have the right
face with the right name.
(That explain why I was such a zombie that night ?)
Finally i met Rachele. (How
was El Torito for dinner ?
You
go to the one off Great America Pkwy ?)
Met
someone who turns out to be a friend of Ben Corr from
this list.
I even wangled a tour of the ESPN mobile production unit,
which was a blast.
Rachele's Mom apparently
put the bee in Rachele & Mayland's & George's
bonnet
after the Indianapolis 91.
Well now the bee is in my bonnet. I used to only go to local meets.
This
brings up a new question.
What does one do when one heads cross country to NCAA,
since
the comp is thur fri &
sat night, what do you do during the day
to kill
time ?
It was a blast to say the least.
Im
kinda quiet these days, Im
busy looking for work and my internet mail has
me snowed under.
Ill rear my ugly head again laterz !

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can tell me how the USA levels 1 - 10
compare with the canadian levels
that I am more familliar with! For
example,
tumbling: what level of tumbling
passes would you do in each
level? Also are there
any age limits for different levels or is it based
entirely on skill?
Thanks

Can
Dominique accept this money if she wants to compete collegiately? I know
that she has refused prize money at the
Reese's World cup because of
this.... She's still planning on competing for
Stanford, right?

Dominique was originally planning to come to Stanford a
year after high
school. She was offered admission
and a scholarship, signed a letter of
intent, and
elected to defer for a year.
Earlier this year (or late last
year) she
signed with an agent, immediately making her ineligible to compete
for any NCAA school. As I have heard it, one of the first
things they
(Dominique, her mom, and the agent) did was set up a $125,000
trust fund to
pay for her college education. She
is taking courses at University of
Maryland while she trains, and I believe
that she is still interested in
attending Stanford
after she retires. I've heard it's a pretty good school
even
if you don't compete in athletics. :)
She would have to re-apply, but
I believe that she has the academic
background to get in a second time around.

If I remember
correctly, Michelle is a freshman at the University of
Washington
and competed beam only this season.
I've heard that she's doing
very well, both
in terms of performance and happiness.
Hopefully the NCAA
fans among us will be
able to see that wonderful dance ability next season.

Did
you ever get the answer to your question ?

where I sat, it looked like a ruptured diaphragm the way he held his gut.
Rachele was in the press ro9om and said it was actually an
arm injury.
So since she was in the press room,
Ill vote for her take on it.

Yes, it seems there

Aurelia
Dobre finishing 16th AA (74.15) at the '74 Worlds.

Re: gymnastics calendar, IRC, CBS NCAA Coverage
Yes, that is three subjects. I thought I
would hit 'em all at one time.
1). I saw the
same ad for a free gymnastics calendar. I started to send off
for it, but I changed my mind. I figured I would wait and
see what happens.
That deal sounds too good to be true. If it is really
that good, I 'll
certainly take a free calendar,
especially if it is as great as they (the
person
advertising it) claims it is.
2). I saw the CBS coverage of the NCAA
women's gymnastics competition. It
was very fast
paced. I have seen gym coverage like that before though. Our
own local station has shown coverage of the Georgia Lady
Bulldogs
(University of Georgia women's gymnastics team).
Their shows usually lasted
about 30 mins. But they show all of the Georgia team's competition
and most
of the opposing team's. No fluff and few
commercials. It's fast paced, one
comp, right
after the other.
But for CBS, they should have showed all an atlhete's performance once they
started
showing it, not just half, and then cut to another athlete. They
missed up this time. But it was probably still better than
ABC and NBC
coverage of gymnastics. At least they
spared us the ton of commercials and
half an hour
of "people stories".
3). The IRC chat is on Dalnet. The servers I use are igc.dal.net and
liberator.dal.net.
The IGC is the better one, if it isn't busy. You should
find
somebody on it at around the scheduled hour. After that, you may not
find
anybody.
Oh, I'm glad to hear that Dominque Moceanu is better. But I am surprised she
would be competing at the U.S. Classic. I thought they would
just wait until
the nationals in June. But I guess
some practice doesn't hurt.

Michelle
is doing great. She is competing
for the University of Washington
on Beam. She did well all season scoring a
respectable 9.8 or higher on
virtually every
routine. She even pulls off that
back layout step out
landing in a scale with
ease!
