In Texas, specifically Austin, I've seen IG for sale at Bookstop and Barnes ands
Noble bookstores, as well as the University Co-Op near the UT campus.

Subject: Chusovitina's floor

A few people have been talking about Chusovitina's floor at the
American Cup being scored too low-9.587.  I believe her start value
was only out of a 9.90.  All that difficulty for that.

(Chusovitina-E=.2, full-out-E=.2,<although you can only count .3 for
extra D,E> front-full punch brani-C+B=.1, front-full punch front-.1
9.40 + .2 +.1(E sub for D)+.1 + .1=9.90 Start value.

Her punch brani was low with a hop to the side, possibly .2 in
deductions and her last pass, she kind of took a step after her punch
front, looked kind of like a cover, maybe another .1?!?!?

She lacked another .1 in combination.  I think her leap combinations
are weak.  She could put it in there.

Subject: American Cup & 3 On 3 Videos

For those of you who missed seeing the routines of great gymnasts (Tousek,
etc) USA Gymnastics will have videos of these two events.

The videos were shot on Hi-8 format from good locations in the arenas. These
videos will show EVERY gymnast who competed. The quality of the footage is
about double what it used to be coming from USAG!
Also availible will be training tapes for women (Am. Cup and 3 on 3) and RSG
(at the 3 on 3).

If you would like to order some of these tapes, call USAG at1-800-4USA-GYM.
They will be availible the first week in April.

Feel free to call me with questions. I cannot take orders but I can answer
about any video related question.

Unless I am way off, I believe you made several errors in reporting the
values of certain elements.

 lot of sense, following
that logic, if a layout barani were a C

well, that would give her her entire .3 in difficuly bonus and her
entire .3 in combination bonus with a D+C and a D+A
I thought that the start value was 9.9 because they did not give her
credit for her front full layout barani combo, but then again, if i am
right about the .2 combo bonus for that combo, that would have made her
start value a 9.8, unless she did some kind of leap combo for bonus that
I didn't notice.  Anyway, it's safe to say, I'm not sure how her start
value was figured!

You left off several non NCAA men, including, but not limited to, Chris
Waller, Scott Keswick, Chainey Umphrey, Steve McCain, Jair Lynch, Josh Stein,
John R., Rob Kieffer, Bill Roth, Paul O'Neil, Mark Sohn and Jarrod Hanks.
Actually, looking at this list, I think the opposite is true.  Not that I
don't think that NCAA shouldn't get covered.  But, maybe this is their
reasoning for not covering it.

Maybe you meant guys who never participated in NCAA?  If that's the case it's
only a few guys.

Subject: Re: NBC & live, Susan

I know NBC and the networks *plan* every minute on a live broadcast and
schedule what goes when.  But, planning and reality don't always meet eye to
eye.  You should know that since you worked for NBC.

The Canadian girl was *suppose* to get held until after John's segment.  But
for some reason she didn't.  Which points out my point exactly that things
don't always go as planned.  Same is true with someone's comment about the
girls' or guys' standings not being displayed.  They didn't mean for that to
happen, but the scores just weren't available by the time they wanted them
aired.  Live broadcasts are extremely hectic and probably not that enjoyable
for the workers.  I'm sure they too for the most part would rather tape it.

I still don't have an answer as to why they spent so much time on Dominique.
Anyone have any inside scoop?  Was it to purposely put Shannon in the shadow
or what?

I have gotten several responses to my explanation, that I tried to
figure up anyway, on Chuso's floor score.
I guess I made a mistake, I don't know, but I thought that the layout
front full had been devalued to a C(and the Rudi to a D).
Looked like to me that she did a front full punch front pike w/
1/2 (brani), which is a B in the Code.(C+B=.1)?!?!?!?
So, sorry if my stab was incorrect.

Are you sure that she said this?

The rudi was devalued to D, but the front full didn't go with it to a C, so
they're both D's.  So she had an E and 3 D's in her tumbling.  She gets
the full 0.3 for extra D/E.  The question is the combinations.  Whatever
it was she did after the first front full doesn't matter if she had
enough deductions that she couldn't get bonus.  That leaves the last pass
of front-full punch front, which as D+A gets 0.2.  9.4 + 0.3 + 0.2 =
9.90.  Voila.  (This is one explanation, anyway -- I don't remember the
routine clearly enough to be sure, so I'm assuming this is how it went,
not that she did get bonus but was missing a special requirement or
something.)

As some of you may have heard, Georgia freshman Karin Lichey has
been diagnosed as having two stress fractures in her back.  She will be
out of competition for at least two weeks and will miss the last home
meet of her incredible freshman year.  The newspaper article said that
hers was a common gymnastics injury.  The same article said that Lori
Strong has a stress fracture in her back as well, but she competes
anyway.  Is this dangerous?

Also, did anybody catch the little article about Lichey's 40.0 in
this week's Sports Illustrated?  It's in the Scorecard section.  It
comments on her perfect score against Kentucky and then her fall to
earth against Alabama.  A pretty good little piece, but IMHO not what
she deserves.  Biased judges or not, she did accomplish an NCAA first.

Do any of you judges out there know if a Rudi has been devalued under
the current code of points? I hadn't heard about that.
I know that Chus was SUPPOSED to throw a layout barani, I don't recall
how laid out or piked it actually was.
