The

UKR was "depleted by injuries", but
CHN was
spectacular.

Compuserve's Reuters section has photos
from Sabae, but you need to have
an account there in order to download the photos. They are copyrighted

Comments.
Yes, I too was rather shocked to see that the US men fell
from
third to ninth,but
after looking at the scores, they were close to
7th (less
than 0.2!!!). They could have finished in the next
highest group (2.0 pts ahead,
4-6th), but they may have had problems.
Lets just say that had the USSR
still been one country, the US
would have been
closer to the top. The break up hurts them
alot, but they still could get closer to the medals
in Atlanta.
Women's Team:
What the HECK has happened in
the Czech Republic? Are they going
backwards? What
ever happened to the country which gave us
Vera,
Hana Ricna, and Vera Cerna?
I can't believe that the break
up of that country
has affected its gymnastics so much. It
just blows
my mind. Does Slovakia have a team now?

Hi! I wrote to Michelle Campi,
who is going to be doing gymnastics at the
UW and she said that she is
doing beam for sure and maybe floor and/or
vault. She said that her back is still healing
but is feeling great. I
also invited her to join Gymn, so
we might be able to add her to that list
(or non
existent list??) of famous people. :)
Just thought that I would
let you guys
know. Bye.

Internet access for gymnastics
I know this doesn't have a whole lot to
do with gymnastics, but I have been
trying to get
internet access so that I can look up some more gymnastics
informtion. I only have AOL now,
and it is so limited. I am not currently at
a
university and my job doesn't have anything. Does anyone know of a service
I
could use to get a single account?
Thanks,

Actually,
9th is pretty good since a week and a half ago everyone was
wondering if the US men were good enough to even finish in
the top
12! Obviously it is
disappointing after being in 3rd after comps.,
but 9th is okay.

The
same can be said re: Germany.
Remember, it was only a few years ago that
the
East German women were always present on the team victory podium. The
unification has definately had an
effect on their womens' program.
And
Bulgaria!!
'Nuff said.

Men's World Trials
I really enjoyed the coverage of the Men s World
Trials on ESPN. I thought
it was much more thorough than the Women s Trials, but I
wish they would have
shown a little bit more of Jair Lynch and Mihai Bagiu. I was
especially
inpressed
with John R s floor ex routine - - great form on the double
twisting double back and what an easy full in at the end of
the exercise!
Maybe he can make
floor finals in Sabae.
It was really kind of
ironic listed to Fred Rothlisberger say that there
was
no way the U.S. would make the top 6 this
year. Unfortunately, today his
predictions turned out to be right - : ( What happened?!? - but, at
the
time of the broadcast they were sitting in the
top 3. It seemed from the
piece on the status of the men s team that the program is
moving in the right
direction. Any other opinions?? I really liked Peter Korman
s statement
about how the guys are EXPECTED to hit
their routines! Have they ever
named
a Men s Olympic coach this early
before?
I thought that there was some pretty strong commentary from
both Bart Conner
and Kurt Thomas on the men s
team....they sounded pretty exasperated!
I
couldn t
believe Bart s comments on Steve McCain.
Among other things, he
said that Steve s
career was a "huge disappointment" and that Steve "was very
quick to make excuses about his mistakes" and that the
other U.S. guys
couldn t
really count on him to hit his routines! Given Steve s
inconsistencies,
I think he has a good point, but I was just kind of shocked
because that s pretty uncharacteristic of Bart.
