Umm...someone
a while back mentioned they wanted to know what
Jamie Dantzscher's
floor music was. I'm not sure, but could it be from
the
movie "Swing Kids"?

*grins* I'm
sitting here watching my tape of the Olympic Festival (god,
being deprived of being in Sabe
can make you do anything:)) and I heard
Julianne McNamara's commentary on
front tumbling, and it reminding me
of something
that I've been meaning to ask for a while. If front tumbling
is to be encouraged, but they don't want to see it overdone,
why not
insist on an equal or lesser ratio? In
other words, a gymnast may not
have more front tumvling passes than they do back tumbling passes, and
the
back tumbling passes must be of equal or
higher value? Does anyone
think this would work?
I'd like some opinions on this, because, while I
like
the front tumbling, I don't think it has done the job that was
intended.
Jenny :)
PS
Thanks to the people who have sent commentary. I will try to watch
my
posting.

I
was reading through the October IG, and caught their highlights, which go
over some of the usual or eye-catching moves whoever it was wirintg the
article saw. They
mentioned that Soni Meduna
"dared" to throw a tinsica or
tinisca (spelling) to a punch
front. What is this move?

Re: What is a tinisca (sp)?
It's
a cartwheel to a front walkover, ie start the move
like a
cartwheel, but end it like a front
walkover.

A tinsica
is a great move. You start it like
a cartwheel, ie side
on,
but half way through change to a front walkover. That's the best
way
I can think to explain it anyhow.
Simone.

Help....help!
Knowing that there
is practically no worlds woverage In England, and
also
knowing
that the best coverage I can get is from DSF, I am begging anyone who
can help me to
please do so. I can't find anyone I
know who receives DSF. If
there are any
kind hearted folk out the who happened to copy any airings, would
it be possible
to send me some?

Unfortunately
we in Holland can not receive DSF, we are able to
receive about 20 different channels and none is showing any
apart
from ZDF on Sunday the 8th of October this
according to the tv
guide. I am still hoping Supersport
will start broadcasting the
worlds today, we went
out there to buy a decoder approx DFL
500.--, but unfortunately they had a programme
CHANGE!!!! (I am
able to watch Judo now). Someone wrote that EUROSPORT will cover
worlds on the 11th
of October but my TV guide lists Rhythmic: Alfred
Vogel Cup. Lets hope ATLANTA is covered a little
better, Chantal

Gymnastics Where is it?
I know fluff is discouraged but isn't it weird
that with the Olympics
coming up next year that
people are not showing more coverage of the
gymnastics. if all of the
gymnastics seessions are sold out, wouldn't.
poeple want to see more Olympic
related event? IT could be that
people
spent so much money to broadcast the
Olympics that this was trivial.
I
mean NBC is only showing 160? of coverage and CBC (Canada ) is showing
240 and other
stations in the world are acting as if nothing is going
on. It is as if the OG do
not exist. I know that there will
be
covearage latter on
but it does not seem enough. Also the guy from
Kahatazhan?
did a new move.
A) Will it be named after him. B) Will
other
people start doing it as early as next year C) What kind of value
does it have. Is there any other country that receives this
message that
has acess?
It just seems weird>
You will see it in papers, but only as a
small
blurb. I mean almost everybody in
the world loves gymnastics. If
it is on it will be watched by someone. Should gymnastics become
professional so it can get more air time?

Worlds: Mens team current standings
World
Championships 1995
========================
Sabae,
Japan 1-10 October
1995
DSF just started their live broadcast of the meet today.
Mens Team Current Standings
---------------------------
1. Russia 560.971
2. Belarus 560.158
3. Korea
558.821
4. Bulgaria 557.285
5. Italy
556.361
6. France 553.524
One
more group to go which includes the leading nations
of
Japan, China, USA, Romania, Ukraine and Germany.
At least Russia had
managed to move on top of the standings
with 6
teams to go.
Scherbo fell off Pommel Horse
when there didn't seem to be
an apparent
problem... his score was 8.95.
Ivankov,
however, did an excellent pommels routine straight
after
Scherbo to score 9.700.
Yeo of Korea scored
9.725 (I think) with a trademark long
and high
Korean vault.
Nemov didn't fall off high bar
:) but Chabaev did (8.725).
The final
session just started so I'd better watch.

WORLDS: Zelepoukina (UKR) injured
The AP
reports that Svetlana Zelepoukina (UKR) broke her
left elbow on
the floor ex in training on Friday,
at the World Gymnastics
Championships.
Zelepoukina
was 29th individually after the comps (4th best on her
team),
and UKR was 5th.
Per FIG rules, since the competition has already
started, UKR is not
allowed to substitute the
alternate, so UKR will compete with six
gymnasts
instead of seven.

Re: Front tumbling
Jennifer:
It is my understanding that the
FIG would like to encourage things like
front
tumbling. That is why elements like
fly springs were originally
valued as a B. Now that the athletes have developed
better tumbling they
are dropping the value to an
A. This system allows for
encouragement but
does not mandate certain
directions of passes. After all, it
is an
optional routine and the judges have enough
rules and requirements to
worry about. Also, you may have an
athletes like Jaycie Phelphs
who is
an an awesome
front tumbler and if she want to do 2 front passes and 1
back
that shouldn't be discouraged.
Don't you think?

Re: What is a tinisca (sp)?
A
tinsica is a combination cartwheel and front
walkover. It kind of
looks like a neat twisted front walkover. On beam the twisted angle
could create a straight line difficulty but it is only
valued at an A.

China
successfully defended their World title with plenty
of
room to spare. Japan claimed the silver in front of home
support,
but the shock of the championship was that the
Romanian guys won the
bronze! The three ex-Soviet states
all finished on
the fringe at 4th to 6th place, Russia
having made
much progress today, moving from 11th after
compulsories
to 4th.
Igor Korobchinsky did the double
layout on floor but landed
very low and would've
smashed onto the floor flat on his face
but he
brought his legs round just in time but his ankles
took
a bashing and he had to be carried off...
The US guys didn't do too
well today, ending up with quite a
few scores
under 9.000.
The ROM guys did very well under pressure and a
tremendous
team effort earned them a medal.

A tinsica is basically a front walkover except that the hand
placement
is the same as a cartwheel, i.e. one
hand is in front of the other, rather
then
parallel to each other as they would be in a front walkover. Makes the
skill much more difficult.
