Actually, I wonder if this is true.  Judges with no stake in a
competition may be more easily bought.

USA TODAY has a blurb today (26 Sep 95) that Amy Chow has sprained her wrist
and is out of Worlds.  She will replaced by Mary Beth Arnold.

Does anyone know when the Worlds will be televised and on what channels in
the US (network? ESPN?)?  Sorry if this has been addressed - I'm returning
from vacation and haven't yet read all my emails.  Thanks.

Subject: pre-Worlds

The AP ran a preliminary article about the Worlds in Sabae.

They listed Moceanu, Marinescu, and Mo as three athletes trying to
"dethrone" Miller.  The only men they mention are from Belarus:
Ivankov, Scherbo, and Shostak.  They mention Shostak because he fell
from the high bar in training on Saturday and was hospitalized with a
broken arm.  Scherbo is recovering from a wrist injry that he got in a
motorcycle accident.

There are 450 gymnasts from 58 nations competing.

Reuters ran a pre-worlds article also.  They mention Scherbo, Ivankov,
and Russians Nemov, and Shabaev.  They say that Scherbo is suffering
form a shoulder injury.

For the women, Reuters lists Miller, Moceanu, Amanar, and "the lanky"
Khorkina as potential winners.

Also, both mention that Moceanu celebrated her 14th birthday on
Saturday.  ;)

Subject: UnFairTix

As a very disappointed suscriber for Olympic tickets, I have dubbed the
ticketing system "UnFairTix".  As a result of this ridiculousity, on two
ticket orders, my family received 12% of the tickets we ordered, and were
refunded a whopping 11,000 dollars!  As another gymner said, we essentially
gave the Atlanta Olympic Committee a VERY large loan for the entire summer,
interest free!  Over two separate orders, we ordered 8 tickets to EACH and
EVERY gymnastics event, and got.....NONE!  Now, I know I'm not alone, but I'm
still incerdibly upset.  In fact, all we got was 2 tickets to the following:
preliminary track and field, preliminary volleyball, preliminary swimming,
and preliminary basketball.  Just for fun, we ordered preliminary Greco-Roman
Wrestling, and we didn't even get that!  So, in conclusion, if anyone hears
of anyone who has tickets to women's gymnastics, or if anyone has tickets to
women's gymnastics, who is not using them or would be interested in selling
them, contact me at KnicksGO@AOL.COM  - I would be willing to pay fairly well
for any tickets.  I don't mean to thrust my problems into everyone else's
view, but I think I have the right to be very upset about all of this mess.

Subject: Olympics Tickets

I was disapointed to read that so many people did not
get tickets to gymnastics.  At my daughter's gym (in
upstate NY) only two of the girls on her team tried to
get tickets and both succeeded.  Both girls families requested
only gymnastics tickets with no alternatives and both requested
3 or 4 sessions with 2 or 3 tickets.  One family got 2 of their
requests, the other got 2 or 3 of the 4.  Their seats were downgraded
to the least expensive seats.  I don't beleive they requested the most
expensive seats.  The tickets they received were for event finals and
and something early in the week.

I know this was supposed to be a luck of the draw but it seems odd
that there were people who put in for thousands of dollars worth of
tickets and got nothing, while others like those at our gym put in for
I beleive under $1000 and got 2/3 of their request.
