New Items Again!

Sovetsky Sport. November 22, 1975. Kiev, 21 November (our correspondent). How quickly times and customs are changing in women's gymnastics! It seems that quite recently, the flickflack in the balance beam routine of Merited Master of Sports Olympic champion Margarita Nikolaeva caused a sensation. Now, almost every other participant easily performed the Korbut salto on this apparatus on the platform of the Kiev Sports Palace. And you know, it's nothing - everyone takes it for granted.

On the third day of competition at the 6th USSR youth championship, our women's gymnastics took another big step towards the heights of the highest technical difficulty. For the first time on vault, a Tsukahara with a twist was performed. The 'pioneers' were Muscovite Lena Aleksyutina and Natasha Tereschenko from the village of Ust-Omchug, Magadan region. The first won the all-around in the masters category, and the second in the candidate for masters category. In addition, it was on that vault that Natasha received the highest score of the competition so far - 9.9 points. Both winners showed their courageous character not only on the vault. Other exercises of their optional program were distinguished by the intensity of desparately bold, ultra-complex elements. For example, both of them included a double somersault in their floor exercises, but they didn't stop there  - they performed it in a combination that included two elements of the  highest difficulty level. Lena and Natasha are both thirteen years old. It's hard to imagine how they will be able to amaze the world in four years! In general, they are not lacking boldness, as well as their coaches Yu. Tarzanov and E. Nechai, who fully share their success.
