Liu was born on March 12, 1979,
in Changsha, Hunan Province. She was the first female gymnast to perform a
one-arm giant swing on uneven bars. She was especially good on beam,
winning the World title in 1996, the World Cup title in 1998 and the Olympic
title in 2000. She was the first Chinese female gymnast to win an
all-around gymnastics medal at the Olympics.
