Subject: Worlds Predictions

Hi all,

It seems like Khorkina and Nemov have a lot of fans, for good reason, and
are two of the favorites. But they're not immune to serious errors.

I think Nemov could either win or be in 8th or something depending on
whether he blows a routine. I have confidance in Scherbo and I want him to
win but nobody seems to know how he's doing lately. Didn't Ivankov finish
lower than 8th in a recent meet with not much competition? Shabaev is
consistent and could win, especially if others falter.

Predictions for event final (just for fun):

Vault - Scherbo (he always seems to pull it together here)
Floor - Nemov, Misutin, or Scherbo (I hope I see Melissinidis again)
P-bars - Sharipov, a Chinese specialist, a Russian, or Scherbo
High Bar - Scherbo, Nemov (can he hit that amazing routine?)
Pommels - A specialist (will Pae Gil Su be there?)
Rings - Chechi (of course), or could Denjanov upset?

For the women it's anyone guess. Any ideas?

Vault - Gogean, Khorkina
Floor - I'd like to see Podkopayeva win
Bars - A Chinese specialist (maybe Mo?)
Beam - Pod, Fab, Miller?

I think it would be a great laugh at the press if Miller won the AA, and she
deserves it. But she has had plenty of success and there is a lot of other
talent out there. Will Pod and Piskun ever learn consistency, even just for
one major meet?

Just my guesses. Please comment if you desire.

Just a bit of info--perhaps you had a typo in you last post--UCLA was
not the winning team of NCAA 1995, the Utes of Utah won.

Dear Gymners,

How are all of you doing?  Anyways, this message is in regards to the
Kristie Phillips movie "Spitfire".  Brandy Johnson was first offered the
role of Charlie Kase (main character-Kristie) in the movie.  But, she turned
it down because she didn't want to have to smoke or curse.  She didn't want
to ruin her reputation!

Krisite looks great in the movie.  They filmed the gym meet parts at
the 1994 American Classic, held at the University of  Central Florida.
Krisite worked out at our gym(Brown's) a couple of times.  She did Giengers
on bars, layouts and her pose on beam, Yurchenkos on vault, and double backs
and double fulls on floor.  She did most of her stunts in the movie, with
the exception of her Jaegar on bars which was done by Wendy Bruce.

Whle she was working on bars, I was on high bar a few feet away.  I happened
to ease-drop on her conversation with the director.  They were talking about
how great she looked, and she said something about her just eating candy
mostly.  I hope this doesn't evole into a Christy Henrich situation.

She talked to me for awhile and said that she was final over missing the 88
Olympics and was happy with her "new" life.  She was really nice.

That's all for now.  Later!

Dave :)

Dear Gymners,

Lanna Apisukh, the 1992 Junior National Champion, is going to compete
at the Sabae Worlds for Thailand.  She is amongst the injured gymnasts that
are going to compete in Sabae.  She has a stress fracture in her wrist.
Lanna trains at Broadway Gymnastics and is coached by Scott Johnson.

Gymnastically yours,
Dave :)

Trampolining : World Team Masters 1995
======================================

Frankfurt, Germany      30th September, 1995

Results (Top Eight):
--------------------

 1. Belarus I                           121.10
    (Galina Lebedeva/Dimitri Poliarusch)
 2. Great Britain                       120.70
    (Andrea Holmes/Paul Smyth)
 3. France                              119.30

 8. United States of America            110.00
    (Jennifer Sans/David Kennedy)

- I don't know much about trampolining so please forgive if
  I get any info wrong.
- Each team consist of two members (male and female) and
they each perform an individual routine, then they do a
synchronised routine together. The total score count.
- It was a close competition and I was disappointed that the
Brits just missed out on the gold medal, but of course
happy that they got the silver.
- The most noticable error came when the Dutch lady Yvonne
Hartog lost control completely and fell outside the trampoline
and landed on the floor below (fortunately the fall was
cushioned by the padding by the side of the trampolines before
she fell outside onto the solid ground). She was helped off
with what looked like an ankle injury. Later though she
returned to perform the synchronised routine with her partner
but within five seconds of the start her ankle gave way and
she had to stop and was helped off the arena once more.

PS For those of you who are able to get the European channel DSF,
they are showing live coverage of the Sabae artistic Worlds from
the 6th to the 10th October. Look for late night and early
morning TV schedules.

I don't remember hearing much about her since 92, do you know if
it was always her intention to compete for Thailand, or is she now
because she could not make the US team?

Actually Sherbo has been running around the USA selling his P-Bar blocks and
not doing a lot of training.  Just in August he was in Oklahoma and worked
out with some of the guys training at Bart Connor's gym - he was not hitting
then.

After the European chmapionships, where he did not do well, he stayed in
Spain (I believe) to do some training.  I am not sure how well he will do.
He has been nursing a sore shoulder, rasing his new daughter (I believe it
was a daughter) and partying in State College, PA.  Not saying that he
doesn't have the talent to make the big stuff, but watch out for the Koreans
on Vault - they are definitely doing great things - high double fronts, one
guy can do a triple front - Yoo, (I have seen him throw it in practice not
competition).

Sherbo can still throw one hell of a PB set - however Misutin is still my
favorite for this event and if he hits it is a 9.8 routine, but watch out
for Nemov on HB or Voropaev (if he is there).  Pommels is going to China,
any one of their men can take it (they stay on forever) - especially Huang,
Huadong and Guo.

Vault - Korean (Yoo)
Floor - LI Xiaoshuang or Misutin
P-Bars - Misutin
High Bar - Nemov / Voroopaev
Pommels - Huang, Hhuadong or Guo
Rings - Chechi
