Subject: INTRODUCTION

Hi.. My name is Barry, I am 37 years old and live in
Manchester ,England,U.K. I am a research biochemist(Ph.D) working in
the UK. I am a senior coach at Stockport School of Gymnastics,Greater
Manchester,Home of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. I have been actively
involved in coaching Womens Artistic Gymnastics since 1979 in the UK.
At present I coach evenings and weekends. Stockport School of
Gymnastics is a reasonably large club catering for all levels of
womens artistic gymnastics from Recreational and begginner level
through to Elite and National standard gymnastics. Unfortunately we
do not cater for men at present due to a restricted facility, but
with the formation of a new Association in Stockport with the local
government we are hoping to build a new and exciting gymnastic
facility in the UK next year with finance from the UK National
Lottery. This will then enable us to expand our horizons to include
all aspects of the sport.I am married to Christine(formerly Christine
Eccles) a member of the Great Britain National Squad and team in the
early 70's. My wife is also a senior coach in Stockport and also a
Regional Judge.
I am interested in expanding my knowledge of the sport in any way,
and also this is a unique way for me to communicate with other
coaches throughout the world. If anyone wishes to contact me direct
my Email address is BMCLAUGH@FS1.HO.MAN.AC.UK
I look forward to recieving your comments, info, and participating in
any discussions. I would also be interested in any gymnastics clubs
both inside and outside the UK who are interested in 'friendly
competition'

  Yours in sport

Dear Fellow Gymners
Since this thing on patriotism seems to be the hot topic of the
week, I thought that I might add my feelings to this.  First of all, I
would like to say that the cold war is over guys.  It ended a while ago.  I
could see that some people back in those days would view the Soviet
gymnasts as evil (like the guy that Beth described) because they were
competing for the "enemy".  If you liked these gymnasts then that somehow
made you a commie.  What a load of nonesence!!  I call people who think
that way ignorant and with not much between the ears.  I won't even try to
describe what I think of those people who still have these same feelings
towards ex-Soviet gynmasts today!
I myself was born in the USA (I now live in Canada) and almost all
of my favorits gymnasts are from Eastern Europe.  So does that make me a
"Commie Lover"?  That last statment may have been a tad harsh, but I'm sure
that that is how some people might think of me as.  That is WAY beyond
silly and is more in the realm of the imature ignorance.
I think that people with such ignorance should be looking at the
performances and not just looking at what country that they are from.

BTW, I am trying to build on my rather meager gymnastics photo
collection.  I am, of course, willing to pay for the redevelopment of
negatives and all postal charges.  I am interested in photos from
1992-present (Men and Women) and from the following countries (in no
particular order): Hungary, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Belarussia, Great
Britian, USA, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Greece and China.  If any
of you would like to help me out, please e-mail me at pbovis@UVIC.ca

THANX MUCHLY

PAUL
