Mary Lynne Werlas asked how it was possible to begin a twist on the second
salto.

One method is to employ a tilt twisting technique by raising one arm at the
start of the  second salto. The first salto is performed with the arm coming
down to the sides. If one arm is raised towards the head, rapidly, during the
second salto then the resulting reaction at the shoulder will create a torque,
and rotation of the body, although the axis of rotation will be tilted
slightly off centre in a line from the shoulder through the C of G. If, during
the landing, the second arm is raised then a counter rotational torque is
generated and the the twist is stopped.

If anybody knows any other techniques I would be interested

Subject: Oprah

I just saw the commercial for the Oprah Winfrey show this monday, and it
does not look good.  All it showed was Oprah asking Betty Okino if her
parents knew she was injured, and Oprah said something about the endlessly
pursuing a dream no matter what the cost.  The show airs at 4:00 pm eastern
this monday in case anyone plans on watching.

In case anyone's interested...

Dominique Moceanu, among other Olympic hopefuls, is on the fold-out
cover of the May issue of _Vanity Fair_.  The other athletes
include Alex Rousseau, Jenny Thompson (the swimmer, not the
gymnast), Nancy Reno, Nick Bravin, Tinker Juarez, Jon Brown, Sheila
Hudson, Michael Johnson, Mark Henry, and Rebecca Twigg.  Within the
magazine Moceanu and Rothlisberger are featured in a b/w photo,
with Dominique balanced upside down on John's head in a split
position.  Captions on the page lists vital stats.  Photos are, of
course, by Annie Leibovitz.

In the same bookstore I noticed that a somewhat large shipment of
The Book had arrived in paperback (just in time, no doubt, for the
Oprah show on Monday).  Oh goody.

On E! entertainment, a preview of the Wheel of Fortune shows
featuring the Olympic gold medalists was featured in a segment of
E! News Daily.  Bart Connor's upcoming nuptials were mentioned, and
he was shown attempting to teach Pat Sajak how to do a cartwheel.

I saw the ad for the show also , I must agree, I don't think it will be pleasant
to gymnasts and gyms.  I also would like to say it airs 4:00pm CST also on
channel 6 (ABC).  Everyone should check your local TV listings and then after
all is said and done I think we should make a point of having gymnasts and
parents from all of our clubs sending their opinions and responses to her show
to her and her networks.
