1. "IMHO" is net-ese for "in my humble opinion".

2. In the FIG code twists are expressed as fractions (probably for space
reasons) so "1/1" is a full twist and "2/1" is a double twist and so on.

3. Judges don't make a whole lot of money. I am a mens' FIG brevet judge in
Florida and i generally make $100 to $200 dollars for a meet (before
expenses). As a coach I make a decent living, but I wouldn't call it "alot of
money". I would not describe myself as financially secure by any stretch of
the imagination. The real money in gymnastics is in gym ownership. I know of
several successful gyms in my area that net in the hundreds of thousands of
dollars a year.

In Puerto Rico we get paid $5 or $10 each day we judge.  I don't really
know exactly how the amount is determined.

Well, it was probably the same situation as mixed pairs in 1991
(and the 3 on 3 this year I believe):  not enough room in the arena!
This is just bad planning IMHO.

What is a "MAY" vault? Is that a RO-Arabian front to the horse?

Yes!  It's named after James May from Great Britain.

Nope,

As a matter of fact, Danny won the class 7 target team title.
He was ecstatic to say the least!

See ya!

Subject: Kim Zmeskal

With all this talk about Kim Zmeskal ending her comeback, I just
thought I would add my two cents.  I agree that if she doesn't want to do
gymnastics anymore she should stop, no doubt about it.  As Doni
Thompson's mother said, sometimes it's harder to make the decision to
stop than it is to continue.
My biggest concern with this situation is that Kim's fans have
been led on for some time now that she would be trying to make the next
Olympic team.  As a result, she has made the press, been on TV for
interviews, and drawn more media attention than she would have had she
not planned this "comeback".  It bothers me when someone sets out to do
something, tells everyone they are going to do something, and then
doesn't do it.  Why all the secrecy?  How long has she known that she
didn't want to comeback?  When she announced her comeback as part of the
USA/Romania meet in 1994 it was one of NBC's biggest stories during their
broadcast.  Yet nothing was said about it during their latest broadcast.
Has Kim given any interviews on TV or in print since she called off her
comeback?  All we have is speculation at this point.  I would really like
to hear from Kim herself to hear what she has to say about her reasons.
I totally respect her for her choice.  I just think it would have been
nice to hear it from her directly why she did this.  Perhaps an appology
for leading us on for so long?
If anyone has any problem with what I have said here (this is
just  my opinion and nobody has to agree with it), I wouldn't mind
hearing about it (*privately* would be preferred).  Thanks.
        Chris.

Subject: Splitting Gymn-L

I'm sorry I am sending this out to the digest, but I forgot the name of the
person who first brought up the topic.

I personally feel that gymn-l should be split. I am a gymnast, and recently
all that I've been seeing in Gymn-L are long articles about controversial gym
topics, arguing about the code, and the lives of fdamous gymnasts. I think
that other gymnasts like myself, and parents of gymnasts would greatly
benefit from a new digest. I'd rather get two different digests each day,
then one extremely long one that requires downloading. If we really attempted
to combine the needs of gymnasts and parents with needs of fans and judges,
then the digest would get way too long. Two shorter digests would be great,
as long as we can stillsubscribe to both. As many of you gymners say, I just
wanted to give my "$0.02" on the issue.

I don't want to say coaches (or gym owners) make much... but I believe that a
gym that runs hundreds of girls through the (now) 10 classes of
competition... plus now powertumbling... there is not doubt in my mind that
there is money to be made in this sport... if you are in the business to make
money... and not cultivate the future athlete's of the sport.

Go figure??

Subject: Christina Bontas (sp)

Just to let everyone know, Christina Bontas was at my club on Tuesday as my
coach had to interview her to see what level of coaching she should get.
She stuck around for a while and we talked.  She is coaching at Hamilton Gym
Elites and as it turns out she will probably be coaching at my gym for a bit
during the summer.  It's great to see yet another gymnast continue into
coaching.  Just thought all would like to know :)
