affair with
sensationalizing anything that will sell in print. It is unfortunate indeed
that your article
will probably never make it into the homes of the many parents who need to
read it.

I've been around many gyms that have had adult gymnastics programs and
100% of them have failed. However, many of our parents do go across the
street to Family Fitness and workout while their kids are training.
Working out at a gym just is not the same thing as doing gymnastics.

Hi all,
Just though I'd chip-in on this one with a comletely irrelevant fact. In
trampolining (in the UK anyway) competitions are organised on a skill basis
(grades F to A), an age range basis, and a sex basis, eg. over 18 female grade
b. I'm surprised to hear that gymnastics misses out the age bit, it seems a
little unfair to me (for a variety of reasons).

- Alexei Nemov was leading from the second rotation onwards until right
in the last rotation when he went on high bar... he fell on a straight
Kovac, fell again on a normal (tuck) Kovac, hit his leg on the bar on
the Geinger, and lost his leg form in a reverse giant into half-turn!
It was an absolute disaster as he only scored 7.350. He only needed
8.75 to win the title!

- Evgeni Chabaev started slowly (he also went in Olympic order: FX, PH,
etc.) but gradually picked it up on the way (as you can see from his
scores) and finished off with a very nice high bar indeed. Elements
include a Kovac, full-twisting hop, Kovac into Geinger, and a stuck
double twisting double layout dismount. He won the European Cup in
the last ditch.

- Valeri Belenki was steady, rounded off by a nice flowing pommel horse
routine (his final apparatus) to claim silver. So it had really been
an exciting last rotation.

- Yuri Chechi led after the first rotation (he was on rings of course)
but was surprisingly keeping up his pressure near the top and
finished up with a well earned bronze medal.

- Grigori Misutin, the pre-tournament favourite, fell on his knees in
the vault (couldn't twist fast enough to get his legs around) and
fell onto his knees again in his triple back dismount off high bar.

- Boris Preti is the oldest man in the meet at 29 years old.

- Dan Burinca was carrying a knee injury so he only did a good routine
in the rings, and the other routines he just did nothing really
(especially on floor since he did not want to hurt his knee). He
rolled over too in the landing of his vault.

- Zoltan Supola of Hungary qualified for this meet but pulled out
early because of an injury. Ivan Ivankov was also injured.


The womens AA will be on tomorrow (Saturday) and the event finals will
be on Sunday.
